Communion Service for 10-13-19 We’ve Come This Far by Grace!

Introduction: There are times in life that you know for a fact that it was only by the grace of God that you made it. Too often, apart from those times, we can take grace for granted. We can put it in box and store if away for times when we need it. The fact is, we need grace ALL THE TIME! This communion message serves to remind us of the awesome gift of grace that came through Jesus.

John 1:14-16

Titus 2:11-14

Ephesians 3:1-21

1 Peter 1:10-16

  • Grace after grace- John 1:14-16
  • Jesus came with grace and truth; the truth is that without grace, we have no hope of salvation because we cannot save ourselves.
  • Jesus treated everyone with grace.
  • The grace “already give” is captured in the pages of the Old Testament.
  • What would have happened if Jesus just came with either grace or truth but not both? How did people respond to the grace of Jesus as he walked among them? Can you point out examples of God’s grace in the Old Testament?

  • Grace teaches…- Titus 2:11-14
  • People are not quick to teach or give grace in fear that people will take advantage and abuse it.
  • This passage teaches the opposite.
  • Grace teaches us to say “No” to sin and “Yes” to holiness.
  • According to this passage, do people who abuse grace truly understand it? How would you explain grace to someone? How does grace help you in your relationship with God?

  • Grace, God’s wisdom and the Church- Ephesians 3:1-21 and 1 Peter1:10-16
  • God grace is that He has always wanted all men saved.
  • God’s grace is shown in the formation of the church- Jew and Gentile becoming one in Christ.
  • God’s wisdom is revealed in the church.
  • Can you find God’s desire to save both Jew and Gentile in the OT story of Abraham? Did the angels know the plan of God? How do you know? Why is the existence of God’s church such a marvel and a testament of His grace? What is the proper response to God’s grace?

Conclusion: Let us never take God’s grace for granted. We should walk in it, speak about it, teach it, and show it. God’s grace is too amazing to keep to ourselves.
